"Caffeine is a natural stimulant found in coffee, tea, cola, cocoa, guarana, yerba mate, and over 60 other items."
Many people use caffeine to help them stay awake and alert, relieve headaches or migraines, enhance athletic performance, boost memory, and manage weight. Some also use it for conditions like asthma, gallbladder issues, ADHD, low blood pressure, and depression. However, it's important to know that there isn't strong scientific proof for most of these other uses. Having too much caffeine can lead to the following signs and feelings:
Caffeine can change how you feel. When you have a reasonable amount, it might make you happier, but having two to six cups of it can make you feel anxious. If you feel anxious, whether a little or a lot, it could mean you're having too much caffeine, and you might want to have less.
Anxiety
Trouble Sleeping
Drinking caffeine close to bedtime can disrupt your sleep, especially if you have a lot of it. It can make your sleep not as good and make it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep. It's best not to have caffeine for up to six hours before going to bed.
Increased Heartbeat
Caffeine can affect the heart in various ways. One study suggested that even just four cups of coffee could lead to slight changes in heart rate. On the other hand, a different small study discovered that drinking five cups of coffee didn't change the heart rate in individuals with heart problems.
Increased Thirst
Studies suggest that even a little bit of caffeine can make some people feel thirsty. People who don't have caffeine often feel thirsty even after just one cup of coffee. But those who have caffeine every day didn't feel thirsty at this level. We don't have proof of how lots of caffeine affects thirst. But it's possible that feeling thirsty could be because of having too much caffeine.
Chest Pain
Chest pain happens when the heart doesn't get enough blood. Caffeine can make the blood vessels narrower, which can lead to less blood going to the heart. So, having too much caffeine might make your chest hurt. But you'd need to have a lot of caffeine for that to happen, so the risk is low if you're only having one to three cups a day.
